Carlos López, bassoon
Mexico City
Nació en la Ciudad de México, inició sus estudios musicales a los 6 años de edad en la
Escuela de Iniciación a la Música y a la Danza del Centro Cultural Ollin Yoliztly con
especialidad en Piano. Posteriormente, comenzó sus estudios como Fagotista en la Facultad de
Música de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México en la cátedra de la Mtra. Nylsa Ávalos
y el Mtro. Manuel Hernández Fierro. Desde Enero de 2016 estudia Fagot en Schwob School of
Music at Columbus State University con Dr. Stephanie Patterson y Dr. Ronald Wirt.Cabe
destacar que actualmente posee la prestigiosa beca “Woodruff Scholarship Award” y ha sido
acreedor a ”Patrons of Music Scholarship Award” Ambas becas otorgadas por Columbus State
University.
Ha participado en diversas clases magistrales de fagot con profesores de gran
reconocimiento internacional, tales como:Dag Jensen, Catherine Larsen-Maguire, Marcelo
Padilla, David Petersen, Martin Kuuskmann, Saxton Rose, Harry Searing, Nancy Goeres, entre
otros. Dentro de su formación profesional ha asistido a diversos cursos de perfeccionamiento
musical como: International Double Reed Society Conference 2016, Instrumenta Oaxaca (2013,
2014), Festival de Música de Santiago de Querétaro 2015, Encuentro Nacional de Fagot Ollin
Yoliztly (2014, 2015, 2016), Curso Orquestal “La Serenissima” (Orquesta Barroca) y el "Curso
Internacional de Dirección Coral" impartido por el Dr. Linus Lerner.
Actualmente es integrante de la Schwob Philharmonic Orchestra y el Schwob
Contemporary Ensemble, dirigidos por Prof. Paul Hostetter y el Schwob Wind Ensemble,
dirigido por Dr. Jamie Nix.Carlos López también ha trabajado con orquestas de gran
reconocimiento como Columbus Symphony Orchestra (Georgia) en USA y en México con la
Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM y la Sinfónica del IPN. Dentro de la experiencia orquestal de
Carlos, ha trabajado con directores de talla internacional como Elim Chan, Enrique Diemecke,
Catherine Larsen, H. R. Reynolds, Mallory Thompson, entre otros.
Carlos ha presentado recitales como solista y de música de cámara en diversos escenarios
nacionales e internacionales, tales como: Legacy Hall, Studio Theatre y Bill Heard Theatre del
RiverCenter of Performing Arts en Columbus, Georgia, USA. Sala Hermilo Novelo, Sala
Xochipilli, Sala Huehucóyotl, Teatro de la República (Querétaro, México) Sala Manuel M.
Ponce (Cuernavaca, México), Museo De El Carmen (Ciudad de México) , Diego Rivera Mural
Museum (Ciudad de México), y el Museo Universum (Ciudad de México).
Born in Mexico City, Carlos Lopez began his musical career when he was 6 years
old at the Escuela de Iniciación a la Música y a la Danza at Ollin Yoliztly Cultural Center
where he focused his studies in piano performance. At age 17, he began his studies in
bassoon at the School of Music of the National Autonomous University of Mexico with
Professor Nylsa Avalos and Professor Manuel Hernandez. In January 2016 Mr. Lopez
continued his education at the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University with
bassoon professors Dr. Stephanie Patterson and Dr. Ronald Wirt. It should be noted that he
currently holds the prestigious "Woodruff Scholarship Award" scholarship, and was granted
the "Patrons of Music Scholarship Award" scholarship from Columbus State University.
He has participated in numerous master classes with artists of international
recognition, such as Dag Jensen, Catherine Larsen-Maguire, Marcelo Padilla, David
Petersen, Martin Kuuskmann, Saxton Rose, Harry Searing, Nancy Goeres, among others.
During his professional training, Carlos Lopez has attended various festivals and events to
refine his musical skills. These include the International Double Reed Society Conference
2016, Instrumenta Oaxaca (2013, 2014), Festival of Music of Santiago de Queretaro 2015,
National Bassoon Meeting in Mexico City (2014, 2015, 2016), Orchestral Course "La
Serenissima" (Baroque Orchestra, 2015), and the "International Choral Conducting Course"
given by Dr. Linus Lerner (2014).
Carlos Lopez is currently a performer in the Schwob Philharmonic Orchestra and
Schwob Contemporary Ensemble conducted by Professor Paul Hostetter, and Schwob
Wind Ensemble directed by Dr. Jamie Nix. Carlos has also performed with professional
orchestras such as the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (Georgia), USA, UNAM
Philharmonic and IPN Symphony in Mexico City under the baton of renowned conductors
including Enrique Diemecke, George del Gobbo, Elim Chan, Catherine Larsen, H. R.
Reynolds, Mallory Thompson, anong others.
Mr. Lopez has performed on several national and international stages such as
Legacy Hall and Studio Theatre at the RiverCenter for Performing Arts in Columbus,
Georgia. He has also performed as a solo and chamber music artist at Hermilo Novelo Hall
(Mexico City, Mexico), Xochipilli Hall and Huehucóyotl Hall (Mexico City, Mexico),
Teatro de la República (Querétaro, Mexico) Sala Manuel M. Ponce (Cuernavaca, Mexico)
as well as “De El Carmen” Museum, Diego Rivera Mural Museum (Mexico City), and
Universum Museum (Mexico City, Mexico).
