Monica Lopez Lau was born in Mexico City. She started her recorder studies at the "Escuela Nacional de Musica" (UNAM). She continued her studies in Holland at the “Conservatorium van Amsterdam” where she got her bachelor diploma. After that, she got her master degree “Diplôme de concert” at the “Conservatoire de Lausanne” (Switzerland) being specialized in contemporary music. In the mean time she studied electronic music at the “Conservatorio di Venezia – Benedetto Marcello” (Italy). She had played concerts in Mexico and Europe (Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, France and Sweden). Actually, she is the member of the medieval music trio 'Perfectas Anónimas', the early music ensemble 'Ensamble Escarlata', the contemporary music ensemble 'Liminar' and the 'Kaput Project' - puppets and music ensemble.         

Since 2009 she teaches recorder and chamber music at the “Escuela Superior de Musica” at the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA) in Mexico City.
